A 30-year-old woman from Zentsuji City, Kagawa Prefecture, is facing legal consequences after accusing Ranking Of Kings manga creator Sosuke Toka of being a pedophile and right-winger on social media.
The defamatory post, made on X in July 2022, has led to the woman’s documents being sent to prosecutors for defamation on Oct 11, 2024, by Chiba Prefectural’s Narashino Police Station.
According to authorities, the woman’s post, which accused Toka of offensive behavior and political views, was made because of her belief that Ranking Of Kings was similar to another manga she favored.
“I wanted to vent my anger,” she admitted.
Toka, who is residing in Chiba Prefecture, sought legal advice in April 2023, prompting the police investigation. The defamatory post had gone viral, forcing the author to go the legal route.
Sosuke Toka was a corporate office worker who left the job at the age of 41 to dedicate himself to being a manga artist.
In 2017, he started drawing his first series, Ranking Of Kings and serialized it on user-submitted Manga Hack website. It has been collected in 18 tankobon volumes by Enterbrain as of Dec 12, 2023.
The series is published in English digitally by BookLive on BookWalker.
An anime television series adaptation produced by Wit Studio aired from October 2021 to March 2022. The spin-off series Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage aired from April to June 2023.
