Emilia is a peach, there is no other way to put it. Against all the evil mechanisms that seem to work against her, she somehow has continued to maintain her naivety and innocence.
However, Emilia continues to be hated by multiple characters. The latest one added to the list, after Echidna, is Sirius Romanee Conti, the Sin Archbishop of Wrath from the Witch Cult.
And just like Echidna, Sirius’ hate for Emilia also had a lot to do with her appearance. But it doesn’t end there, it is also related to the person who the Archbishop claims was her husband and her object of affection.
Without further ado, let’s get down to the reasons.
Why does Sirius Romanee Conti hate Emilia?
To answer in short, Sirius hates Emilia because she bears a striking resemblance to Satella. Yep, it is her similarity to the Witch of Envy that ticks Sirius off.
Sirius doesn’t hold back when it comes to berating her lineage—especially as a half-elf—and also her appearance, which is very similar to that of Satella’s, thanks to the silver hair and purple eyes.
But then, Sirius is a member of the Witch Cult, so shouldn’t she technically have been pleased that someone who looked exactly like Satella was standing in front of her?
Well, the Witch Cult Archbishops are all deviants in one way or another—there is no other way to put it. While they stick to the writings of the Gospel, they all have their personal goals and motivations.
When it came to Sirius, her hate for Satella, and in extension Emilia, stemmed from her obsession with Petelgeuse Romanee Conti, who she proclaimed to be her husband.
Sirius’s love for Petelgeuse bordered on madness. This madness could be somewhat explained by the theory that Sirius is actually Fortuna who has gone crazy after absorbing a Witch Factor, and Pandora’s meddling.
She claimed to be his wife, obsessed with the idea that they were bound together, even though there is no evidence that Petelgeuse ever reciprocated her feelings.
On the other hand, Petelgeuse was entirely devoted to Satella, the Witch of Envy. He saw Satella as the ultimate object of worship and devotion, blinding himself to Sirius’s feelings.
In fact, this reverence of Satella is also believed by some to be a twisted form of love which he had for Fortuna. Since Pandora manipulated his mind, he may have transferred his admiration from Fortuna to Satella, trying to forget that he was the one who killed her.
However, there is proof that his devotion to Satella existed long before his descent into madness, as evidenced by his tearful reaction upon seeing Emilia during the flashbacks in Season 2.
This unrequited love was the reason for Sirius’s hatred towards Satella. She viewed her as the one who had stolen Petelgeuse from her.
And naturally, since Emilia bore an uncanny resemblance to Satella, Sirius directed her wrath towards her.
When Sirius first meets Emilia, she instantly sheds her usually polite demeanor and becomes a representation of pure rage. The mere sight of Emilia was enough to send Sirius into a fiery fury.
Interestingly, this hate would take on a whole new meaning, if Sirius actually were to be Fortuna. If Emilia comes to know that the person who is hating her to the core is actually the woman she respects the most in the world, how will she take it?
Well, we have to wait for Tappei Nagatsuki to answer our questions! Poor Emilia. Surely has it hard doesn’t she?
